The Material Science department at PPISR includes faculty and students from diverse backgrounds such as , chemistry, biochemistry etc. working on various thrust areas of fundamental and applied materials research. Currently the department has initiated research in various areas such as catalysis, mesoporous materials, photocatalysis, synthesis of laser materials, characterization and application of crystalline and amorphous solids, plastics, zeolites, nanomaterials etc.

The department has recently procured several state of the art equipments and instruments dedicated to carry out quality research. Some of the instruments are:
