Weekly seminar by Dr R Vetrivel “Importance of catalyst composition and reaction conditions”

Abstract: A mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen can be converted into 1000s of different liquid hydrocarbons by varying the catalytic process. This is one of the best catalyst case studies to discuss the ‘CONCEPT of Catalysis’ introduced by Berzelius in 1820. This catalytic process is popularly known by its inventors ‘Fischer & Tropsch’. This talk will focus on the historical development of catalyst, complicated reaction mechanisms involving the simplest possible molecules and the industrial & societal importance of this reaction.
